Will continue to monitor the stock and will not continue to add if the stock continues to increase. I also added WFC after a almost a month as the stock has dropped below $50s. The financial sector has been weak lately due to the market conditions as well as uncertainty surrounding the interest rate hikes from Fed.

  • EMR – 2.2672 shares@44.1065 ($100)

I invested a total of $300.

I continued my purchases in DIS and EMR. EMR has dropped over 5% compared to last week’s purchase. I plan to continue adding to this stock over the next few weeks as I build a reasonable position as long as the stock doesn’t increase too much. I also continued to add DIS from last week as the stock continues drop close to $100 levels. Hoping for the stock to come to $90s and might add more.

I also added AFL after several months. The stock has dropped close to 15% in the last month along with the broader market. My position wasn’t too big and the stock dropped back to below my average price. I want to add to this position if the stock continues below the ~$57 levels.

I want to add to my other positions like PEP, KO, V etc, and these prices have dropped a bit this week. Will look at these stocks for next week’s purchases based on the prices next week. but want these prices to drop a bit more before I continue to add.

Sharebuilder Purchase – 2/3/2015

Here are my sharebuilder automatic investments this week (2/3/2015).

  • AFL – 1.7115 shares@58.4277 ($100)
  • JNJ – 0.9858 shares@101.4396 ($100)
  • T – 2.9356 shares@34.065 ($100) new position

I invested a total of $300. I continued to add AFL and JNJ from last week. I was not planning to add AFL, but it did drop over 3% between last purchase and Monday. But of course, it did increase again Tuesday along with the rest of the market. I still got it less than my average price. I continued to add JNJ as the stock stays around $100 mark. I would like it to drop even more, but I plan to add more as long as the price is less or around the $100 mark.

I did not continue to add BBL for couple of reasons. The price has increased quite a bit in the last few days and the price is almost 10% over my average price. Also, like I mentioned last week, I have a reasonably sized position in BBL and would like to hold off adding to it while I build or initiate the positions in other stocks. I will add more BBL if the price drops from the current levels.

I initiated a position in AT&T (T). I don’t have any exposure in any telecom stocks and have been looking to add T and/or VZ for a while now. I decided to initiate position in T and I plan to build the position slowly over the next few weeks/months.

These purchases add $10.95 to my annual dividends. This results in 3.65% yield.

Portfolio update – January 2015

That was quick. One month has already gone by in 2015. Time to report the status and progress for the month. Monthly status checks help to stay on course as well as help identify goals that might need closer attention.

At the end of January 2015, my portfolio stood at $83,414.16 across all my accounts combined.
Comparing to my portfolio balance of $83,754.61 at the end of December 2014, this represents a decrease of $340.45 for the month of January which represents a 0.41% decrease for the month.

Of the increase, new investments accounted for $1,200, thereby giving a net portfolio increase of -$1,540.45 or -1.84% for the month.

This is the second month in a row where the net portfolio has gone down. The market has been really choppy in the last few weeks and continues to be volatile. The oil prices continues to be weak and this is putting lot of pressure in oil related stocks. I have been making weekly sharebuilder purchases in January and adding to my positions in AFL, BBL and JNJ primarily. I didn’t make any other purchase. but looking forward to making at least 1 big purchase in Feb.

Here is a graph showing the growth of my portfolio since 2009. As always, it is satisfying to see the graphs going higher each month/year. It reinforces the fact that I am making progress towards my goals.
