About

I am an amateur to Dividend Growth Investing. I will be documenting my journey in dividend investment in order to achieve my goals of building a portfolio of solid dividend paying companies.

I started investing sometime in 2009 right after the housing crisis. I started investing very little initially as would any new investor. I was learning about it as I went along. I invested regularly in various companies during 2009 and 2010, but I didn’t invest much during 2011 and 2012 and was just sitting on the sidelines waiting for the market to correct. Little did I know that I will ride a bull market for from 2009 until now. So unfortunately, I didn’t invest as much as I would have liked. But it is easy to say now by looking at the past.

But I have always been and still am a buy and hold kinda investor.

My initial set of investments included few dividend paying stocks like GE, MO, COP, PG, GIS and AAPL (AAPL has become a dividend stock since 2012). My other investments included some wildcards/growth stocks like AET, CMG, HPQ, GOOG.

Lately, I have also started focusing on dividend growth investing and companies that pay and grow their dividends regularly. Thanks to the various dividend investing sites I read and follow regularly, I have been active lately with my investments and focused on investing in solid dividend paying companies.

My portfolio page lists my current investments.

My aim is not financial independence at an early age like most of the blogs I follow since being a single earner for my family of 4, I am not sure if that is feasible anytime soon. But I would like to grow my portfolio so that this provides a regular stream of income later in life. I am looking to grow my networth by investing in solid dividend companies that pay consistent dividends as well as grow their dividends.

Upon reading the blogs of other investors, I have been inspired to document my journey about building a portfolio of dividend paying stocks. Please follow my journey along and let’s learn and invest together.

  1. Hi DGJ,

I just wanted to thank you all as a visitor, commenter, or subscriber to my blog. I really value the comments you have made, as I love discussing personal finance and dividend stocks!

I recently changed host, but unfortunately this lost all my comments on the latest dividend stocks watch list I wrote.

I was wondering if you would be so kind as to head on over there, and leave a comment (again)? I would be eternally grateful!

    Cheers,

    M

  2. Hi there DGJ,
I read your blog and I have to say that I am impressed with what you managed to achieve being the sole income provider of a family of 4. It must not be easy.
Still your blog is a great read, keep up the good work!

    • Thanks Stalflare. Yup… while lot of dividend investors are focusing on FI and early retirement, my goals for dividend investing is to build a sizeable portfolio to add to my income at retirement or add to my kids college fund. But either way, dividend investing and power of compounding is very powerful.
      Congrats on starting your blog.
      DGJ

  3. Thanks for the encouragement and the congratulations on the blog thing… I hope I can keep it up, it’s something I quite like to write, even though I realize that since I have just started I do not have a lot of topics to discuss… 🙂
As to individual targets I would like to build up a family so the idea of Dividend investing is quite similar to the one that you already have 🙂
